History of London MX9s International Tournament
THE WORLDS BIGGEST ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL RUGBY LEAGUE TOURNAMENT!
The London MX9s International Tournament (MX9s) was a concept created by world famous Russell Grant of the Federation of Middlesex Sports www.middlesexfederation.com and the London Skolars www.skolars.com.
Both organizations felt the need to have an annual rugby league jamboree event along similar lines to the worlds most famous rugby union 7s tournament; the Middlesex 7s.
The MX9s was created! The idea is to bring together diverse teams from overseas and domestic competitions and the aims are as a way to aid the development of the game.
From 2006 it was decided to move the event to coincide with the Challenge Cup moving back to London and it will be held on the August bank holiday weekend. It was also decided to focus the competition on the international teams. The idea being that it becomes the annual meeting point for Europe’s burgeoning international teams. Including Tartarstan, Serbia, Holland, Germany and many more. It was also felt that the magic of Wembley would inspire the people involved to bigger and better things!
The previous winners of the MX9s are:
• 2003 Royal Engineers
• 2004 London Skolars
• 2005 Royal Engineers
• 2006 GB Barla
• 2007 France
It is hoped that the MX9s continues to take its place in the Rugby League calendar as a high class prestigious event. It is also a chance for London to show case itself as a growing hub of rugby league activity.
We would encourage all fans of rugby league to make the effort to patronise the event and do their bit to help the tournament and the participating nations grow from strength to strength.
